Nirzar Lakhia (Proprietor @IGRI) is a doctorate (PhD) in the field of “Applications of Geomatics in Artificial Groundwater recharge structures”. He has obtained Double MSc. Degrees in the field of “Geology” and “Applied Geology” from Gujarat University and M S University resp. Realising the importance of Geomatics in his current field of work he decided to go for the further studies and completed his PGD in “Geomatics in Hazards and Risk Analysis” from (IIRS) ’Indian Institute of Remote Sensing’ at Dehradun and further went to pursue PhD at MSU, Baroda under Dr. Bindu Bhatt. He has over 20 years of professional experience in Industry, Academia and Research. 

Industry: Started his career as a Mining Geologist/Mines Manager in ‘1998’ today Dr. Nirzar is associated with various private organizations as a Geo-Hydrologist for mining and groundwater development projects. He holds the position as an Empanelled Expert to several environmental Consultants in Landuse, Geology and Hydrology since 2004. He is one of the resource person at NABET for Landuse and Hydrology and is also considered for GWCO, Delhi as one of the member of its Technical Committee. Dr. Nirzar also worked as a Planning associated (GIS/RS) at private organizations and universities like CEPT and has been consultant in several projects related to Urban planning. Dr. Nirzar works as a consultant of Geomatics to several organization and acts as a support person in Mapping and Modeling of various environment related projects like Land use, CRZ, Urban planning, flood forecasting, 3D modelling, Watershed mapping, Sub-surface hydrology and Geology under the name of “Indian Geomatics Research Initiative”. He also supported various organizations to establish division of Geomatics.   

Academia: Dr. Nirzar had started and coordinated Masters Level program in Geomatics at (SERI) Scanpoint Education Research Institute in 2007. He also coordinated ‘MSc. Climate Change’ at Gujarat University and used to deliver lectures at department of Geomatics. He had been associated with CEPT University as a visiting faculty at School of Planning, Climate Change and Building Science & Technology. He has been delivering guest lecture to the various universities like NIRMA University, Gujarat University, GEMI, Anant University, SVNIT, GIDM, GEPRI etc. and has conducted short Term training courses with various universities as well. He is also proficient in conducting customized short term training to various private organizations for educating existing employees in GIS whilst guide them in establishing new GIS divisions. Recently he has also established his own professional training centre in Geomatics called “Indian Geomatics Research Institute (IGRI)”.   

Research: Dr. Nirzar Lakhia has guided students of Gujarat University for their PGD Dissertation projects and has also published and presented few papers. Earlier he was involved as a member of research team in the development of the ‘IGIS’ software at SGL. Apparently he has been involved in the development of few mobile and Web applications with other organizations as well.
